Subject: 3 facilitation courses. What’s the difference?
Preheader: your questions answered inside
Hi %user.name_f%,
Here at NVC Academy, we run two facilitation courses per year. Then this year, we ran a third.
They are all different.
With Mary soon to begin the next round of Jump In Now: Facilitation Basics we wanted to answer some questions about how Jump in Now differs from the other two courses.
Without further ado…
🤔 What are the three facilitation courses run by NVC Academy?
- Jump in Now Facilitation Basics - taught by Mary Mackenzie - runs every year (dates vary). It is a quick 4-session course covering 6 topics giving students the information they need to get started with facilitating groups. The next cohort starts Thursday, November 16, 2023. ⬅️that’s in just over 2 weeks!
- Facilitate NVC Groups with Joy and Confidence - taught by Mary Mackenzie - runs every year (dates vary year-to-year). It is an in-depth 10-session course that gives students a whole toolkit of techniques and resources across 16 topics so they can facilitate with confidence. The next cohort starts September 2024.
These two courses, whilst different in length and depth, give students practical tools to get started and elevate their facilitation techniques.
They teach how to facilitate. Topics like: how to make lesson plans, what to track and how to do it, building a curriculum, how to use transparency, and making online workshops engaging. The content is applicable to any facilitation role, as well as teaching NVC groups specifically.
- Equitable Facilitation - taught by Roxy Manning - was a new 4-session course that ran for the first time in September 2023. It focussed on awareness of the different life experiences in the room and unconscious uses of power and privilege. It covered ways a group’s different backgrounds, - including race, cultures and gender - impact how a person might be received in a room, and how their past experiences play out in their responses to different situations.
In short, the courses run by Mary and Roxy are very different in content.
If you already took Roxy’s course in September, Jump in Now would complement the teachings you received, not duplicate.
🤔 I am interested in learning about facilitation, but I’m not sure I want to teach NVC. Is Jump In Now right for me?
That depends on your hesitation.
We’ve had students attend Mary’s Facilitation courses purely to learn more about how to facilitate a group using NVC principles. Both the 4-session and the 10-session courses support this intention.
A percentage of content in both of Mary’s courses is aimed at running an NVC group, but it can be adapted for other situations too. The majority of the content would help in any facilitation role.
🤔 I don’t think I know enough NVC to teach it. Is Jump In Now right for me?
Everyone in your class will likely know less than you.
Even after teaching NVC for 22 years, Mary openly shares how she is still learning new depths of living in an NVC philosophy. And she hopes this process never changes.
Jump in and take a risk!
Always be honest about how much you know. Do not hide or pretend you know more than you do. That way, you will be authentic whilst supporting others to grow their NVC knowledge and improve their relationships.
🤔 I facilitate groups (or want to) but I’m not sure yet if I want to teach NVC. Is Jump In Now right for me?
If you’re looking to learn some facilitation skills with an NVC lens, and maybe teach an NVC group, Jump in now: Facilitation Basics will give you enough to get you started.
However, if you’re looking to learn some more thorough facilitation skills with an NVC lens, and maybe teach an NVC group, Mary’s 10-week course, Facilitate NVC Groups with Joy and Confidence will set you up with in-depth knowledge, tools and resources.
🤔I’m brand new to NVC and really passiontae. Will Jump In Now teach me more about NVC?
No. None of our facilitation courses teach NVC. Mary’s facilitation courses teach students how to facilitate, and how to teach NVC including how to facilitate with an NVC lens.
We hope this clarifies things a bit for you, %user.name_f%.
