Subject: Drinking too much, reflections and mantras
Preheader: invitation to a free event
As December 31 approaches, I’ve been reflecting on the way I used to celebrate as a teenager. I use the word celebrate loosely.
I dreaded New Year’s Eve.
😟 I went to parties despite feeling uncomfortable being there
😴 I stayed up later than I wanted, trying so hard to fit in
🍺 I drank too much to numb my feelings
💋 I worried no one would kiss me at midnight
UGH! I’m glad those days are behind me!
Nowadays, New Year’s Eve is actually really important to me.
It’s a time I look forward to and enjoy!
If I attend a party, it is with a small group of close friends, with little (or no) alcohol, and lots of deep meaningful connection.
And as the end of a year approaches, I take time to reflect on the year that passed, and set my intentions for the year that’s coming.
It helps me identify changes I wish to make.
And usually winds up unveiling a mantra for me to carry with me through the coming year.
My mantra this year has been, “I have choice”.
It helped me avoid many moments of resentment by remembering to pause and consider my options.
In 2022, my mantra was “This change is Divinely guided”.
It has helped me through uncountable sticky challenges that would have otherwise made me want to hide in bed.
Over the years, as my own experience of New Year’s transformed from a night of dread to a cherished time to reflect, I have realised the powerful impact of inner peace which I often get through meditation.
While my own journey led me to find peaceful strength in creating a mantra, I recognise the universal longing we all have for peace.
With that in mind, I would like to invite you to a special event - one of my favorite events of the year!
On December 31 at 7am Pacific (California) Time, the NVC Academy is hosting a FREE New Year’s Eve Peace Meditation online via Zoom.
The event is being co-sponsored by a number of other Nonviolent Communication enthusiasts from around the globe. It will take place in English and will be simultaneously interpreted into Spanish, Mandarin and German.
Join us as we come together in meditation to:
- Focus in on how peace feels to each of us
- Virtually clasps hands and spirits with the Nonviolent Communication community
- Offer loving, hopeful, peaceful thoughts out to the world for 2024
The meditation will last 20 minutes, and there’ll be an afterparty for those that would like to stay longer to connect with the wider Nonviolent Communication community.
Everyone is welcome. Invite your friends!
I hope you’ll join us, %user.name_f%.
