Subject: Setbacks and celebrations
Preheader: 2 days until our free meditation event
Dear %user.name_f%,
I have an ability to recall my setbacks effortlessly. They roll off my tongue without hesitation.
Yet ask me what I’m celebrating, and I have to think a while.
It is as if my brain is wired to highlight the struggles, the embarrassment, or the pain.
But the joys, small wins, or successes take a little (or a lot) more effort.
It’s the difference between walking to the end of my (short) driveway, and running up Mount Whitney with a 20kg backpack on.
Okay, I’m exaggerating a little. But can you relate, %user.name_f%?!
As 2023 comes to a close, I am working on shifting my internal narrative.
While I believe it is important to acknowledge what has not gone well.
And I also believe in acknowledging what has.
This year, I am celebrating:
- Bootcamp workout! I’m no longer feeling uncomfortably out of my league in a class full of 20-30 year olds in tight lycra. This 65 year old body is doing alright! 💪
- Sitting down to reconcile the business finances 📖 - a task that only brings me joy when it is done yet I often procrastinate! Relief everytime I choose action over procrastinating.
- Self-acceptance for all the times I have found something else to do instead of the business books. 🤷
- Washing the windows 💧I’m not sure I’ll ever enjoy this job but I set an intention to take better care of the windows and I have (mostly) stuck to it. Hurrah for accomplishment!
- Restarting my daily meditation practice after a long hiatus 🧘 Enjoying being less grouchy, and increasing my inner spaciousness.
- Strengthening my marriage by living in love and appreciation for my wife. I have been making more effort to love and appreciate her in words and acknowledgements. Connection 💕
What are you celebrating %user.name_f%?
For me, acknowledging my personal wins revives an internal spark. I get a sense of hope that spreads far beyond whatever I’m personally celebrating. It reignites a sense of hope for all humankind.
And goodness knows with all that is going on in the world, humankind needs hope.
It is in this spirit I invite you to join me at our Annual New Year’s Peace Meditation on Sunday Dec 31 at 7AM Pacific (California) Time.
