Subject: Want to be a part of the change ?
Preheader: [New course: NVC with a systemic lens]

Hi %user.name_f%,

I just saw my teenage neighbor lift a piece of trash from the street and throw it in the trashcan — my heart lifted. 💗

This morning I read an article about there having been over 470 mass shootings across the US already this year — my heart sank.😢

Yesterday, as the nurse checked my blood pressure she chatted to me fondly about her child’s joy at being picked to play on the school football team — my heart lifted.💗

Last week I witnessed a Black shop assistant being spoken to badly by a white customer in front of me in line — my heart sank. 😢

Our days are full of these moments - they shape the way we see other people.

And the world. 🌍

Our moments are influenced by the systems we live in.

Each and every one of us was born into multiple systems.

Systems of Race. Color. Faith. Gender. Wealth. Education. Politics. Social Etiquette. Class. Family. Health.

The list goes on.

These systems give us a roadmap of how to live our lives. Kind of like a map.

They shape our views on pretty much everything!

…whether we pick up a stray piece of trash from the street, our feelings about violence, what we see as an achievement, and how to speak to other people.

Often, we are not aware of the systems we live in until we come across something that causes us to realize we live differently to someone else — or to a whole other community.

Our systems are not always well-oiled machines.

They have glitches.

People are often not treated equally.

People get hurt.

We might feel powerless to make a difference.

But regardless of what systems we find ourselves born into, living in, or mixing with, once we become aware of the way those systems operate - and why - we can make a difference to improve things.

We can use our NVC practice to move towards togetherness. Equity. Harmony.

Starting on Tuesday November 21 at 9AM Pacific (California) Time, Sophie Docker and Sarri Bater from OpenEdge are teaming up with NVC Academy to discuss moving towards equity in their new course NVC with a Systemic Lens: How Far We’ve Come, Why it Matters, and What is Needed Now.

It’s a 4-session course taking place weekly on Tuesdays at 9AM Pacific (California) Time.

They will cover:

  • Understanding otherness, and why it happens
  • Applying NVC principles beyond individual experiences
  • Reconnecting to the living system we are part of
  • Harnessing the power of NVC to bring about social transformation

OpenEdge, a UK based charity, believes "the way we make change is fundamental to the change we hope to see." *

The charity works with "individuals, organisations, groups and communities, to decolonise and grow transformative, interdependent cultures, developing dynamic, inclusive ways of co-existing and walking towards challenge together." *

These trainers are passionate about transforming systemic and structural violence. And using conflict as a driver for change.*

Their course is designed for anyone with some prior understanding of NVC, and with an interest in sharing what they know.

Ready to discover how you can make a difference to your communities, %user.name_f%?
