[New course on pettiness]

Subject: She dropped it so she should pick it up
Preheader: [New course on pettiness]

"ARGHHHH!!! Why can't she just put that in the trash??" The voice inside me snapped as I stepped over a piece of paper on the garage floor for the sixth time (yes, I was counting).

The voice continued, "she dropped it, she should pick it up."

To me, this piece of paper on the floor was as annoying as a gnat buzzing around my face.

However, I expect my wife was not bothered by the paper being there — it did not interfere with us accessing the gardening tools (or anything, for that matter).

Sometimes, what annoys me, does not annoy my wife.

I picked up the offending piece of paper and dropped it into the trash can.

Thus tending to my need for order.

And calm, since I was no longer feeling irritated by it.

Most of us can be petty from time to time.

I do not feel ashamed about my pettiness — I have learned that what really matters is how I respond to it.
