[New course on judgments]

Subject: WOAH there Mary!
Preheader: [New course on judgments]

Hi %user.name_f%,

When I first learned about NVC, I learned the difference between observations and judgments.

And rapidly realized I didn't actually know how to navigate my world without judgments.

I was not sure it was possible.

Can you relate, %user.name_f%?

A wise voice suggested I spend some time just noticing my judgments, not trying to change anything about them.

"Wow, that's an unattractive outfit."

"Oooh, what a jerk!"

"The City did such a poor job on that new street."

WOAH there, Mary!

These judgments came so quickly into my head (fortunately, I didn't say them out loud!).

I wished I didn't have them.

I felt discouraged.

And bad about myself.

Then it occurred to me — I could discern my world without involving the other person

👎 "Wow, that's an unattractive outfit" became
👍 "Those colors together don't meet my need for beauty."

👎 "Oooh, what a jerk" became
👍 "Oooh, I feel so hurt and would really like to be seen for how hard I worked on this project."

👎 "The City did such a poor job on that street." became
👍 "I wish this street was easier to navigate."

I still have judgmental thoughts.

I no longer expect to go away completely.

But now, I simply try to react to them less often.

If I notice myself saying or thinking something critical about someone else, I do my best to translate that judgment into feelings and needs.

I hold myself in compassion.

I hold the other person in compassion, too.

My inner judge means I have plenty of opportunities to practice!

But these days, I am way less judgmental of those around me.

AND less judgmental of myself for having those judgments in the first place.

It makes it easier to connect to others.

And I feel more content in my life.

I long for you to experience this too, %user.name_f%.
