Hi, %user.name_f%,

Sofie here. Just dropping in with the replay link for yesterday’s webinar -

>> Click here to watch Yvette demonstrate how to navigate a power imbalance.

Go take a peep if you didn’t watch it live — it was so insightful.

The wisdom Yvette shared is particularly relevant as we navigate our daily interactions, which are often shaped by prevailing cultural norms.

And since most of us live in a culture where having a power-over approach is normal, moving away from that demand energy takes awareness and practice.

It can be done.

Yvette’s live demo was inspiring. As you watch it, %user.name_f%, I invite you to see if it ignites your curiosity about your potential to foster shared power in your relationships.

She also told us more about her upcoming course, Navigating Power Dynamics with Nonviolent Communication

It’s a six-week program starting on Monday, April 15, designed to support people with a desire to navigate conflict by providing them with the insight, skills and practice they need to help them move out of power struggles and into shared power with others.

Sessions will explore:

  • The dynamics of power struggles so you understand why and how they occur
  • Practical strategies for navigating power imbalances, so you’ll know the steps you can take to transform the next sticky situation you find yourself in.
  • How we can share power in various relationships so you can apply what you learn
  • How Nonviolent Communication supports a movement away from domination, so you can step towards shared power

Topics will shed light on how cultivating shared power can foster trust, understanding and cooperation. How, together, you can find resolutions that honor the needs of all parties involved. And how you can foster a culture of mutual respect and engagement. ❤️

Plus you’ll practice. So you’ll get a clear picture of how to make this a reality - your reality - in different relationships: intimate, friends, parent/child, educational and workplace.

There are a variety of ways people respond to power-over dynamics:

  • At the first hint of conflict, some people shrink in size and resort to whatever steps are necessary to prevent further escalation, such as apologizing, complying with demands, or stopping the activity. Underneath there may be feelings of resentment, frustration or sadness.
  • Others may puff up and fight back with words or actions to exert their authority. Doors may get slammed, words yelled, cold, hard looks given out.
  • Sometimes people get stuck in a standoff, where both parties feel tense, angry, upset or exasperated. They might lash out with words, or take action into their own hands.

The specifics of how a person responds in a power struggle vary. But it’s possible to learn the skills to help you create a culture where power is based on co-creation, collaboration, empathy and shared values

STUDENT APPRECIATION!
👏 This is what some of Yvette’s students have said about learning with her in a variety of her previous courses:

"Yvette is an amazing teacher. Her classes are loaded with fun, deep wisdom, and practical steps for dealing with relational challenges in the moment. I highly recommend them." – Evie

"Time in your class always flies. You present information in such engaging and useful ways. I could listen to you all day." – Past student

"Yvette creates an atmosphere of experimentation and mutual learning that has helped me understand the human condition. I’ve gained strategies to tame my inner jerk and allow empathy to build heart-to-heart connections." – Tim

😆 Ha! Well said, Tim. Don’t know about you, %user.name_f%, but I can relate to that!

Disagreements are a part of life.

The skills to navigate them in a way that takes you out of the power struggle and into a connected, resolution finding, respectful experience can be learned
